Overview
Product Options Pro turns the plain OpenCart option lists into a product configurator: colour swatches and image tiles, the picture of the chosen value as the main image, options that appear only when another option has a certain value, a price that follows every choice and the quantity, and quantity discounts per option value that reach the cart, the checkout and the order.
- Swatches, buttons and image tiles for select, radio and image options. The native OpenCart inputs stay in the form underneath, so add to cart, required checks and other extensions keep working.
- Option images. Give a value its own picture (from the image folder): it becomes the main product picture while the value is chosen. Swatches show the picture or a colour you pick.
- Conditional options. Show an option only when another option has one of the values you tick, e.g. "Frame colour" only for "With frame". Hidden options are not sent, and "Required when shown" is checked on the server.
- Live price. The price on the product page follows options and quantity, with your tax display, specials and the product's quantity discounts (OpenCart 4.1 percentage, fixed and subtract rules included), and a "Total for 3" line.
- Quantity discounts per option value. "Red: 10+ pieces, 15% off the Red surcharge" or "Large: 25+, $2.50 off each". They appear next to the value and as one discount line in the cart, checkout, order and invoice, with taxes adjusted.
- One editor per product under Catalog > Product Options Pro, plus an Options Pro button on the product form.
No OCMOD, no core file edits: events and an order total. One licence covers OpenCart 4 and 3. Tested on OpenCart 4.1.0.4 and 3.0.5.1 with the default themes; other 4.0.2.x to 4.1.x and 3.0.3.8 to 3.0.5.x versions are expected to work but are not tested.
Installation
Requirements
- OpenCart 4.0.2.0 to 4.1.x, or 3.0.3.8 to 3.0.5.x
- PHP 7.4 or newer
- Products with options (Catalog > Options, then the Option tab of a product)
Install on OpenCart 4
- Go to Extensions > Installer and upload
kv_product_options_pro.ocmod.zip. - Press the install button next to Product Options Pro.
- Go to Extensions > Extensions, choose Modules and install Product Options Pro. The "Option quantity discount" order total is installed and switched on with it.
Install on OpenCart 3
- Go to Extensions > Installer and upload
kv_product_options_pro-oc3.ocmod.zip. - Go to Extensions > Modifications and press Refresh.
- Go to Extensions > Extensions, choose Modules and install Product Options Pro. The "Option quantity discount" order total is installed and switched on with it.
Licence
Enter the licence key from your Kavio Labs account on the Settings tab. The extension runs as a 14-day trial without a key. Without a valid licence, product pages show the standard OpenCart options and no option discounts are given; your settings stay and the admin always works.
Uninstall
Extensions > Extensions > Modules > Product Options Pro > Uninstall removes the events, the settings, the order total and the extension's tables. Products, options and orders stay untouched.
Configuration
Catalog > Product Options Pro (or Extensions > Extensions > Modules > Product Options Pro > Edit). Tabs: Products and Settings.
Products tab
Lists the products that have options, the ones you already set up first, with a search by name or model. Edit options opens the editor of one product. The product form also has an Options Pro button next to Save.
Option editor (per product)
For every option of the product:
| Field | What it does |
|---|
| Look on the product page | Select, radio and image options: Default (your theme), Colour / image swatches, Buttons or Image tiles. Other option types keep the theme look. |
| Show this option | Always shown, or only when another option (select, radio, checkbox, image) has one of the values you tick. Conditions can chain; loops are refused. |
| Required when shown | The option must be filled when it is visible. Set the option itself to not required in the product: OpenCart would otherwise demand it also when it is hidden. The editor warns about this. |
For every value of select, radio, checkbox and image options:
| Field | What it does |
|---|
| Image | A file from the image folder (the product's own images are suggested). It becomes the main product picture while the value is chosen and the picture of its swatch. |
| Colour | The swatch colour (#rrggbb) when the value has no image. |
| Quantity discounts | min qty:amount, several separated by commas. 10:15% = from 10 pieces, 15% off this value's surcharge; 25:2.50 = from 25 pieces, 2.50 (store currency, without tax) off each piece. The highest matching quantity wins. |
Settings tab
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|
| Status | On | Off: standard options, no option discounts. |
| Live price | On | The price follows options and quantity; "Show the total for the chosen quantity" adds a line under the price. |
| Option images | On | The chosen value's image becomes the main picture. |
| Quantity discounts | On | Shows "10+: 15% off" next to the value. |
| Swatch size | 40 px | Size of round swatches; image tiles are a little larger. |
| Accent colour | Blue | Frame of the chosen swatch or button. |
| Discount line title | Option quantity discount | Title of the order total line. Its position: Extensions > Order Totals. |
| Licence | | Key, status and Check now. |
FAQ
Does it change my options or product data?
No. It stores its own settings per product in three tables. Turning it off brings the standard product page back.
Does it work with my theme?
The swatches sit above OpenCart's own option inputs and the price is found by its text, so themes that keep the standard option inputs work. Tested with the default themes of OpenCart 4.1.0.4 and 3.0.5.1. A theme that renders options in a completely different way may need a small adjustment; ask us.
Is the live price the same as in the cart?
It uses the same rules (option surcharges, specials, product quantity discounts, your tax display). In our tests the product page unit price matched the cart unit price on both versions. Option quantity discounts are shown on the product page and given as one discount line in the cart.
What about admin order editing?
The discount is an order total, so it is recalculated like any other order total. Editing orders in the admin was not run in our tests.
Why "Required when shown" instead of the product's Required tick?
OpenCart checks required options before any extension can tell that an option is hidden. Set conditional options to not required in the product and tick "Required when shown" in the editor; the server then checks them only when they are visible.
Does it do option combinations with their own stock?
No. Stock stays per option value as in OpenCart.
Does it use OCMOD?
No. Events and an order total.
