Pantry: Grocery Theme for OpenCart

Overview

Pantry is a grocery and food delivery theme for OpenCart 4.x and 3.0.x by Kavio Labs. It is built for grocers, farm shops, bakeries, delis, meal-box and local delivery stores: shoppers fill a basket in two minutes on a phone.

What you get

• Aisle bubbles. Your top-level categories as round, tinted bubbles with the product count. Category images are used when you set them; otherwise Pantry picks a produce illustration from the category name.
• Add, then a stepper. Product cards end in a green Add button. After the first add the card shows an "In basket" ring and a - n + stepper, read live from the cart.
• Unit line. "500 g · $5.60/kg" under the product name, from a pack size attribute. Pantry works out the price per kg, per litre or per item.
• Produce stickers. Oval sale stickers ("-20%") from specials, plus up to two labels such as Organic or Local from an attribute.
• Recipe block. A recipe with its ingredients and one Add all button. Shoppers can untick what they already have.
• Delivery pill and top bar. "Same-day delivery" in the header and "Free delivery on baskets over $40" in the top bar. Both are your own texts.
• Phone basket bar. A floating bar on phones with the basket total and free-delivery progress, above a 5-tab bottom bar.
• Product page. Tinted image well with stickers, unit line, a big buy box, up to 3 facts (origin, storage, shelf life), a delivery note and a nutrition table from an attribute group.
• Four presets. Market, Greenhouse, Citrus and Deli. They differ in more than colour: card shapes, borders, button corners and type width change too.
• Self-hosted fonts. Bricolage Grotesque and Figtree (SIL Open Font License 1.1). Pantry makes no requests to font CDNs.
• Safe to install. No core file changes and no OCMOD. A licence problem never blocks the store: the theme keeps working and the settings page shows a reminder.

Works with

• Sell by Weight & Length (Kavio Labs): its measure input replaces the quantity field on the product page. Pantry then hides its own +/- buttons.
• Make an Offer (Kavio Labs): the offer button appears under Add to Cart in Pantry's buy box.
• Other extensions keep working. Pantry keeps the core ids on the product form (#form-product, #input-quantity, #button-cart) and on the mini cart (#cart).

Installation

OpenCart 4.x

1. Go to Extensions > Installer and upload kv_theme_pantry.ocmod.zip. Click Install (the green + button) next to it.
2. Go to Extensions > Extensions, choose the type Themes, and click Install next to Pantry Grocery Theme by Kavio Labs.
3. Click Edit, check that Status is on, choose a preset and save.
4. Go to System > Settings, edit your store, and on the General tab set Theme to Pantry Grocery Theme by Kavio Labs. Save.

OpenCart 4 has no theme folders. Pantry is a theme extension: it swaps in its own templates while it is the store's theme and switched on. Switch the store back to Default to return to the stock look at any time.

OpenCart 3.0.x

1. Go to Extensions > Installer and upload kv_theme_pantry-oc3.ocmod.zip.
2. Go to Extensions > Modifications and click Refresh. Pantry ships no modification, but OpenCart expects the refresh after every upload.
3. Go to Extensions > Extensions, choose Themes, and click Install next to Pantry Grocery Theme by Kavio Labs.
4. Click Edit, check that Status is enabled, choose a preset and the image sizes, and save.
5. Go to System > Settings, edit your store, and on the General tab set Theme to Pantry Grocery Theme by Kavio Labs. Save.

Recommended settings

• Image sizes (OpenCart 4: System > Settings > Image; OpenCart 3: the Pantry settings page): product list 400 x 360, product image 800 x 720, popup 1200 x 1080, additional 120 x 108, cart 120 x 108.
• Products per page: 12 (it fills the 4- and 2-column grids evenly).
• Product images: square-ish cut-outs on a white or transparent ground look best. Pantry shows them inside tinted wells and blends white backgrounds into the tint.
• Home layout (Design > Layouts > Home): Pantry renders its home sections itself. Modules you add to the Home layout still show, below the product rows.

Uninstall

Click Uninstall in Extensions > Extensions > Themes. Pantry removes its events and settings. A store that still uses Pantry is switched back to the stock theme first, so it never renders without a theme. Then delete the upload in Extensions > Installer.

Updates

Upload the new package in Extensions > Installer (OpenCart 4: uninstall the old version there first), then refresh modifications on OpenCart 3. Your Pantry settings stay as they are.

All settings are on Extensions > Extensions > Themes > Pantry > Edit, per store.

General

Header & basket

Home page

Pantry's home page shows, in this order: aisle bubbles, the hero with two promo boxes, a deals row, the recipe block, a second product row, "How delivery works", and the offer band. Modules of the Home layout follow the product rows.

• Links take a category id (20), a category path (20_27) or a URL. An empty link opens the Specials page.
• Images take a path below image/, for example catalog/home/box.png. Without one, Pantry uses its built-in illustrations.
• Deals row: product ids in your order, or empty for the products on special.
• Second row: product ids, or the latest products or products on special.
• Recipe: ingredient product ids (products without required options), title, text and chips such as 25 min|Serves 2|Vegetarian. The Add all button adds every ticked ingredient in its minimum quantity.
• Switch Pantry home sections off to use only the modules of the Home layout.

Product data (attributes)

Pantry reads normal OpenCart attributes (Catalog > Attributes). Name them as below, or change the names on this tab.

The price per unit uses the special price when there is one and includes tax when your store shows prices with tax.

Licence

Enter your licence key on the Licence tab. Fresh installs run a 14-day trial. Without a valid licence, Pantry keeps working and this page shows a reminder. The store and the admin panel are never blocked. The licence check runs in the admin panel only, at most once a day. It sends the licence key, the theme id and version, your store host names and the OpenCart version.

FAQ

Does Pantry change core files or use OCMOD?

No. On OpenCart 4, Pantry is a theme extension that swaps in its templates through events. On OpenCart 3, it is a theme folder plus a theme extension that adds data through events. Neither version edits core files or adds OCMOD modifications.

I edited a template in Design > Theme Editor. Which one wins?

Your Theme Editor version. Pantry only uses its own template when the Theme Editor has no override for that page.

Can Pantry book delivery slots?

No. The delivery pill and the delivery note are texts you write. Use a delivery-date extension for slot booking. Pantry styles the checkout around it.

Products with required options show "Add" on cards. What happens?

OpenCart sends the shopper to the product page to choose the options. The card stepper only tracks products without options.

Where does the "In basket" state come from?

From the mini cart, which Pantry reloads after every change. The state is right after any add, remove or quantity change, on any page.

Do I need product images with a white background?

White or transparent works best. Pantry shows images in tinted wells and blends white into the tint. Photos with a busy background still work, but look less like the demo.

Which fonts does Pantry load?

Bricolage Grotesque and Figtree, served from your own store (fonts/ in the theme assets, SIL Open Font License 1.1). Pantry loads no fonts from third-party servers.

What happens when my licence expires?

Nothing changes in your store. The Pantry settings page shows a reminder until you renew. Updates and support need a valid licence.

Yes. The screenshots in these docs come from the "Larder Grocers" demo: 6 aisles and 30 products with illustrations made for the theme.
